The Edmonton International Film Festival 20th Edmonton International Film Festival
September 29 to October 7, 2006
2006 is the year to eat cake as the Edmonton International Film Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary of bringing international cinema to Edmonton audiences.
For nine days and nights, movie fans and filmmakers from across Canada and around the globe gather to eat, sleep and breathe all things cinematic! With an emphasis on 'discovery', EIFF presents a fascinating mix of feature-length films, light documentaries and short films gathered from all corners of the world. Our goal is to nurture a better understanding of other nations through the art of cinema, to expose the people of greater Edmonton to movies and stories they might not ever have the opportunity to see again, and to inspire the motion picture industry in Alberta.
Film Festivals offer an enriched perspective of the world.
Aside from a program of terrific movies, EIFF also presents a series of Insider Talks with guest filmmakers, a 24-hour filmmaking challenge we call '24/One', 'Lunchbox Shorts' – noon-hour short film programs for the downtown business crowd – and parties galore. Watch our website for birthday festivities as they unfold.
The Edmonton International Film Festival showcases the finest filmmaking in five major streams:
Trippin' – The best independent cinema from North America. Feature films and documentaries in Trippin' are cultivated from the international film circuit and submissions to the fest. Canadian films in this category are in the running for a cash prize and the title of 'Citytv Canadian Feature'.
World Winds – International, international, international. Did we say 'international'?
Edge of Night – These oddball films push the envelope and blur the lines between what's weird and what's not. Which explains why they're programmed at the edge of night.
10 Up – A program of films from around the world for little people – and bigger ones – aged 10 and older. Don't be scared by sub-titles!
International Shorts – The cornerstone of this Festival! This series combines juried films, solicited films and visiting filmmakers for screenings that are akin to ridin' the rollercoaster at West Edmonton Mall.
If having your film screen for the movie-savvy people of Edmonton and area isn't reward enough, contact the Festival office for information on awards: info@edmontonfilmfest.com.

Highlights include the Night Parades, the International Snow Sculpture show, the Ice Palace, and watching people court hypothermia at the St. Hubert snow baths, where brave and foolhardy souls bathe in the snow dressed only in their bathing suits, at the height of the Quebec winter.
